Vitalpath Consulting and Education is dedicated to elevating the practice of correctional nursing. Led by a doctoral-prepared nurse with more than 30 years of acute care, critical care, leadership, and correctional experience, Vitalpath delivers practical, relevant education built for the realities of prisons and jails.

Meet Your Founder

With licensure across eight states and leadership experience from bedside nurse to Chief Nurse Executive, our founder brings unmatched clinical and operational expertise. She holds elite certifications including FACHE, HCM-BC, NEA-BC, NE-BC, and CEP, and has firsthand correctional experience from working inside Level 2 and Level 4 prisons such as San Quentin and CSP Sacramento in California.

Her training is confident, compassionate, and grounded in real-world insight helping nurses not only survive but thrive in correctional healthcare.

Correctional Nursing Education & Leadership

Correctional nursing is one of the most complex, high-risk, and misunderstood areas of healthcare. Care is delivered inside custody-controlled environments where access to patients is delayed, emergencies unfold differently, and communication must account for safety, security, and operations not just clinical findings.

Yet most nurses enter prisons and jails with little to no preparation for these realities.

We exist to change that.

Our work is dedicated to helping nurses who deliver patient care in prisons develop the clinical confidence, correctional-specific expertise, and leadership skills needed to thrive not simply survive behind prison walls.

We believe the challenges correctional nurses face are systemic, not personal failures. Traditional nursing education and onboarding were never designed for the care custody dynamic, leaving nurses to learn through trial, error, and unnecessary risk. With the right education and mentorship, correctional nurses can deliver ethical, high-quality care while building respected, sustainable careers.

Our approach is grounded in lived experience, evidence-based practice, and a deep understanding of both healthcare systems and correctional operations. Most incarcerated individuals will one day return to our communities making high-quality correctional healthcare not only an ethical obligation, but a public health imperative.
